Chlorogenic acid

Chlorogenic acid (constituent of echinacea angustifolia root, echinacea pallida root, echinacea purpurea root and echinacea purpurea aerial parts)

C16H18O9 (354.0950778)

Chlorogenic acid is a cinnamate ester obtained by formal condensation of the carboxy group of trans-caffeic acid with the 3-hydroxy group of quinic acid. It is an intermediate metabolite in the biosynthesis of lignin. It has a role as a plant metabolite and a food component. It is a cinnamate ester and a tannin. It is functionally related to a (-)-quinic acid and a trans-caffeic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a chlorogenate. Chlorogenic Acid has been used in trials studying the treatment of Advanced Cancer and Impaired Glucose Tolerance. Chlorogenic Acid is a natural product found in Pavetta indica, Fragaria nipponica, and other organisms with data available. Chlorogenic Acid is a polyphenol and the ester of caffeic acid and quinic acid that is found in coffee and black tea, with potential antioxidant and chemopreventive activities. Chlorogenic acid scavenges free radicals, which inhibits DNA damage and may protect against the induction of carcinogenesis. In addition, this agent may upregulate the expression of genes involved in the activation of the immune system and enhances activation and proliferation of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, macrophages, and natural killer cells. Chlorogenic acid also inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases. A naturally occurring phenolic acid which is a carcinogenic inhibitor. It has also been shown to prevent paraquat-induced oxidative stress in rats. (From J Chromatogr A 1996;741(2):223-31; Biosci Biotechnol Biochem 1996;60(5):765-68). Chlorogenic acid is the major polyphenolic compound in coffee, isolated from the leaves and fruits of dicotyledonous plants. This compound, long known as an antioxidant, also slows the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal. Coffee is a complex mixture of chemicals that provides significant amounts of chlorogenic acid. The chlorogenic acid content of a 200 ml (7-oz) cup of coffee has been reported to range from 70-350 mg, which would provide about 35-175 mg of caffeic acid. The results of epidemiological research suggest that coffee consumption may help prevent several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinsons disease and liver disease (cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma). Most prospective cohort studies have not found coffee consumption to be associated with significantly increased cardiovascular disease risk. However, coffee consumption is associated with increases in several cardiovascular disease risk factors, including blood pressure and plasma homocysteine. At present, there is little evidence that coffee consumption increases the risk of cancer. (PMID:16507475, 17368041). Nervonic acid

(15Z)-tetracos-15-enoic acid

C24H46O2 (366.3497616)

Nervonic acid is a long chain unsaturated fatty acid that is enriched in sphingomyelin. It consists of choline, sphingosine, phosphoric acid, and fatty acid. Nervonic acid may enhance the brain functions and prevent demyelination (Chemical Land21). Research shows that there is negative relationship between nervonic acid and obesity-related risk factors (PMID:16394593). Demyelination in adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is associated with an accumulation of very long chain saturated fatty acids stemming from a genetic defect in the peroxisomal beta oxidation system responsible for the chain shortening of these fatty acids. Sphingolipids from post mortem ALD brain have decreased levels of nervonic acid, 24:1(n-9), and increased levels of stearic acid, 18:0. (PMID:8072429). (15Z)-tetracosenoic acid is a tetracosenoic acid having a cis-double bond at position 15. It is a conjugate acid of a (15Z)-tetracosenoate. Nervonic acid is a natural product found in Tropaeolum speciosum, Calophyllum inophyllum, and other organisms with data available. Nervonic Acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid with a 24-carbon backbone and the sole double bond originating from the 9th carbon from the methyl end, with this bond in the cis- configuration. Indoleacetic acid

2-Amino-3-(2-amino-2-carboxy-ethyl)disulfanyl-propanoic acid

C10H9NO2 (175.0633254)

Indoleacetic acid (IAA) is a breakdown product of tryptophan metabolism and is often produced by the action of bacteria in the mammalian gut. Higher levels of IAA are associated with bacteria from Clostridium species including C. stricklandii, C. lituseburense, C. subterminale, and C. putrefaciens (PMID: 12173102). IAA can be found in Agrobacterium, Azospirillum, Bacillus, Bradyrhizobium, Clostridium, Enterobacter, Pantoea, Pseudomonas, Rhizobium (PMID: 12173102, PMID: 17555270, PMID: 12147474, PMID: 19400643, PMID: 9450337, PMID: 21397014) (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-1-4612-3084-7_7) (https://escholarship.org/uc/item/1bf1b5m3). Some endogenous production of IAA in mammalian tissues also occurs. It may be produced by the decarboxylation of tryptamine or the oxidative deamination of tryptophan. IAA frequently occurs at low levels in urine and has been found in elevated levels in the urine of patients with phenylketonuria (PMID: 13610897). IAA has also been identified as a uremic toxin according to the European Uremic Toxin Working Group (PMID: 22626821). Using material extracted from human urine, it was discovered by Kogl in 1933 that indoleacetic acid is also an important plant hormone (PMID: 13610897). Specifically, IAA is a member of the group of phytohormones called auxins. IAA is generally considered to be the most important native auxin. Plant cells synthesize IAA from tryptophan (Wikipedia). IAA and some derivatives can be oxidized by horseradish peroxidase (HRP) into cytotoxic species. IAA is only toxic after oxidative decarboxylation; the effect of IAA/HRP is thought to be due in part to the formation of methylene-oxindole, which may conjugate with DNA bases and protein thiols. IAA/HRP could be used as the basis for targeted cancer, a potential new role for plant auxins in cancer therapy (PMID: 11163327). 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid, also known as (indol-3-yl)acetate or heteroauxin, belongs to indole-3-acetic acid derivatives class of compounds. Those are compounds containing an acetic acid (or a derivative) linked to the C3 carbon atom of an indole. 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid is slightly soluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid is a mild, odorless, and sour tasting compound and can be found in a number of food items such as sweet bay, chinese bayberry, winter squash, and linden, which makes 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid can be found primarily in most biofluids, including blood, feces, saliva, and urine, as well as throughout most human tissues. 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. In humans, 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid is involved in the tryptophan metabolism. Moreover, 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid is found to be associated with appendicitis and irritable bowel syndrome. 1h-indol-3-ylacetic acid is a non-carcinogenic (not listed by IARC) potentially toxic compound. C8H8O2 (136.0524268)

Phenylacetic acid, also known as phenylacetate or alpha-toluic acid, belongs to benzene and substituted derivatives class of compounds. Those are aromatic compounds containing one monocyclic ring system consisting of benzene. Phenylacetic acid is slightly soluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Phenylacetic acid can be synthesized from acetic acid. Phenylacetic acid is also a parent compound for other transformation products, including but not limited to, hydratropic acid, 2,4,5-trihydroxyphenylacetic acid, and mandelamide. Phenylacetic acid is a sweet, civet, and floral tasting compound and can be found in a number of food items such as hyssop, cowpea, endive, and shea tree, which makes phenylacetic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. Phenylacetic acid can be found primarily in most biofluids, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), saliva, feces, and blood. Phenylacetic acid exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. In humans, phenylacetic acid is involved in the phenylacetate metabolism. Moreover, phenylacetic acid is found to be associated with kidney disease and phenylketonuria. Phenylacetic acid is a non-carcinogenic (not listed by IARC) potentially toxic compound. Phenylacetic acid is a drug which is used for use as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of acute hyperammonemia and associated encephalopathy in patients with deficiencies in enzymes of the urea cycle. Phenyl acetate (or phenylacetate) is a carboxylic acid ester that has been found in the biofluids of patients with nephritis and/or hepatitis as well as patients with phenylketonuria (PKU), an inborn error of metabolism. Phenyl acetate has been identified as a uremic toxin according to the European Uremic Toxin Working Group (PMID: 22626821). Excess phenylalanine in the body can be disposed of through a transamination process leading to the production of phenylpyruvate. The phenylpyruvate can be further metabolized into a number of products. Decarboxylation of phenylpyruvate gives phenylacetate, while a reduction reaction gives phenyllactate. The phenylacetate can be further conjugated with glutamine to give phenylacetyl glutamine. All of these metabolites can be detected in serum and urine of PKU patients. Phenyl acetate is also produced endogenously as the metabolite of 2-Phenylethylamine, which is mainly metabolized by monoamine oxidase to form phenyl acetate. 2-phenylethylamine is an "endogenous amphetamine" which may modulate central adrenergic functions, and the urinary phenyl acetate levels have been postulated as a marker for depression. (PMID: 17978765 , 476920 , 6857245). Phenylacetate is also found in essential oils, e.g. neroli, rose oil, free and as esters and in many fruits. As a result it is used as a perfumery and flavoring ingredient. Phenyl acetate is a microbial metabolite. D009676 - Noxae > D000963 - Antimetabolites D000970 - Antineoplastic Agents
