It is a metabolite isolated from the bacterium, Streptoverticillium fervens and targets the catalytic subunit of the fungal UDP-glycosyltransferase, the first step in the biosynthesis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors. It exhibits broad spectrum antifungal activity against several pathogenic fungi including Mucorales.
