Cholesteryl oleate is an ester of cholesterol. Fatty acid esters of cholesterol constitute about two-thirds of the cholesterol in the plasma. Cholesterol is a sterol (a combination steroid and alcohol) and a lipid found in the cell membranes of all body tissues, and transported in the blood plasma of all animals. The accumulation of cholesterol esters in the arterial intima (the innermost layer of an artery, in direct contact with the flowing blood) is a characteristic feature of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease affecting arterial blood vessels. It is a chronic inflammatory response in the walls of arteries, in large part to the deposition of lipoproteins (plasma proteins that carry cholesterol and triglycerides). Cholesteryl esters, formed by the esterification of cholesterol with long-chain fatty acids, on one hand, are the means by which cholesterol is transported through the blood by lipoproteins, on the other, the way cholesterol itself can be accumulated in the cells. 2-Butenal
(e)-2-butenal, also known as (cis)-crotonaldehyde or (E)-crotonaldehyde (iupac), is a member of the class of compounds known as enals. Enals are an alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde of general formula RC=C-CH=O in which the aldehydic C=O function is conjugated to a C=C triple bond at the alpha, beta position (e)-2-butenal is soluble (in water) and an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). (e)-2-butenal is a flower tasting compound found in fruits, garden tomato, and potato, which makes (e)-2-butenal a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products (e)-2-butenal can be found primarily in feces and saliva. 2-Butenal (CAS: 4170-30-3), also known as crotonaldehyde, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as enals. These are alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes of the general formula RC=C-CH=O in which the aldehydic C=O function is conjugated to a C=C triple bond at the alpha, beta position. The (E)-form of 2-butenal predominates (>95\\%). 2-Butenal can undergo polycondensation with phenols to synthesize phenolic resins. It is an eye, skin, and mucous membrane irritant. (E)-2-Butenal is found in fruits and vegetables (e.g. tomato juice, strawberry aroma).
Oleoyl-CoA
Oleoyl-CoA is a substrate for Acyl-CoA desaturase and Protein FAM34A. [HMDB]. Oleoyl-CoA is found in many foods, some of which are cardoon, fruits, hyssop, and rice. Oleoyl-CoA is a substrate for Acyl-CoA desaturase and Protein FAM34A.
Dihydroxyfumaric acid
Dihydroxyfumaric acid is a known generator of superoxide anions and by hydroxyl free radicals. Dihydroxyfumarate exposure can cause insulin inhibitory effects. It can spontaneously convert to hydroxypyruvate or to oxaloglycolate. [HMDB] Dihydroxyfumaric acid is a known generator of superoxide anions and by hydroxyl free radicals. Probucol
Probucol is only found in individuals that have used or taken this drug. It is a drug used to lower LDL and HDL cholesterol yet has little effect on serum-triglyceride or VLDL cholesterol. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p993).Probucol lowers serum cholesterol by increasing the fractional rate of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) catabolism in the final metabolic pathway for cholesterol elimination from the body. Additionally, probucol may inhibit early stages of cholesterol biosynthesis and slightly inhibit dietary cholesterol absorption. Recent information suggests that probucol may inhibit the oxidation and tissue deposition of LDL cholesterol, thereby inhibiting atherogenesis. It appears to inhibits ABCA1-mediated cellular lipid efflux.
