2-Isopropylmalic acid

(2S)-2-Hydroxy-2-(1-methylethyl)butanedioic acid

C7H12O5 (176.0685)

2-Isopropylmalic acid (CAS: 3237-44-3), also known as 3-carboxy-3-hydroxyisocaproic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydroxy fatty acids. These are fatty acids in which the chain bears a hydroxyl group. 2-Isopropylmalic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. 2-Isopropylmalic acid is an alpha-hydroxy organic acid regularly occurring in the urine of healthy individuals (PMID: 2338430, 544608), and in hemofiltrates (PMID: 7251751). 2-Isopropylmalic acid is elevated during fasting and diabetic ketoacidosis (PMID: 1591279). It is also a metabolite found in Acetobacter (PMID: 6035258). α-Isopropylmalate (α-IPM) is the leucine biosynthetic precursor in Yeast[1]. α-Isopropylmalate. CAS Common Chemistry. Chloral hydrate

1,1,1-Trichloro-2,2-dihydroxyethane

C2H3Cl3O2 (163.9199)

Chloral hydrate is a sedative and hypnotic drug as well as a chemical reagent and precursor. The name chloral hydrate indicates that it is formed from chloral (trichloroacetaldehyde) by the addition of one molecule of water. Its chemical formula is C2H3Cl3O2. It was discovered through the chlorination of ethanol in 1832 by Justus von Liebig in Gießen. Its sedative properties were first published in 1869 and subsequently, because of its easy synthesis, its use was widespread. Cyclopamine

Spiro[9H-benzo[a]fluorene-9,2(3H)-furo[3,2-b]pyridin]-3-ol, 1,2,3,3a,4,4,5,6,6,6a,6b,7,7,7a,8,11,11a,11b-octadecahydro-3,6,10,11b-tetramethyl-, (2R,3S,3R,3aS,6S,6aS,6bS,7aR,11aS,11bR)- (9CI)

C27H41NO2 (411.3137)

Cyclopamine is a member of piperidines. It has a role as a glioma-associated oncogene inhibitor. Cyclopamine is a natural product found in Veratrum grandiflorum, Veratrum dahuricum, and Veratrum californicum with data available. Cyclopamine is a naturally occurring chemical that belongs to the group of steroidal jerveratrum alkaloids. It is a teratogen isolated from the corn lily (Veratrum californicum) that causes usually fatal birth defects. It can prevent the fetal brain from dividing into two lobes (holoprosencephaly) and cause the development of a single eye (cyclopia). It does so by inhibiting the hedgehog signaling pathway (Hh). Cyclopamine is useful in studying the role of Hh in normal development, and as a potential treatment for certain cancers in which Hh is overexpressed.
