These are sterol lipids containing a glucuronide moiety linked to the steroid skeleton. 17beta-Estradiol 3-glucuronide is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Estradiol glucuronide is believed to play an important role in the mechanism of 17beta-estradiol(E2)-mediated tumour formation. Conjugation with glucuronic acid lowers tissue levels by facilitating excretion.
