(e)-beta-farnesene, also known as 7,11-dimethyl-3-methylenedodeca-1,6,10-triene, is a member of the class of compounds known as sesquiterpenoids. Sesquiterpenoids are terpenes with three consecutive isoprene units (e)-beta-farnesene can be found in a number of food items such as safflower, lemon thyme, cauliflower, and root vegetables, which makes (e)-beta-farnesene a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
