Picric acid, also known as acide picrique or c.i. 10305, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as nitrophenols. Nitrophenols are compounds containing a nitrophenol moiety, which consists of a benzene ring bearing both a hydroxyl group and a nitro group on two different ring carbon atoms. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on Picric acid. This compound has been identified in human blood as reported by (PMID: 31557052 ). Picric acid is not a naturally occurring metabolite and is only found in those individuals exposed to this compound or its derivatives. Technically Picric acid is part of the human exposome. A lampricide is any chemical designed to target the larvae of lampreys in river systems before they develop into parasitic adults. One lampricide is used in the headwaters of Lake Champlain and the Great Lakes to control the sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus), an invasive species to these lakes.[1] TFM (3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol) is the main chemical used for this purpose.
