Nitrofurantoin
A bacteriostatic or bactericidal agent depending on the concentration and susceptibility of the infecting organism. Nitrofurantoin is active against some gram positive organisms such as S. aureus, S. epidermidis, S. saprophyticus, Enterococcus faecalis, S. agalactiae, group D streptococci, viridians streptococci and Corynebacterium. Its spectrum of activity against gram negative organisms includes E. coli, Enterobacter, Neisseria, Salmonella and Shigella. It may be used as an alternative to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole for treating urinary tract infections though it may be less effective at eradicating vaginal bacteria. May also be used in females as prophylaxis against recurrent cystitis related to coitus. Nitrofurantoin is highly stable to the development of bacterial resistance, a property thought to be due to its multiplicity of mechanisms of action. Dantrolene
Dantrolene is only found in individuals that have used or taken this drug.Chemically, dantrolene is a hydantoin derivative, but does not exhibit antiepileptic activity like other hydantoin derivates such as phenytoin.Dantrolene depresses excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle by binding to the ryanodine receptor 1, and decreasing intracellular calcium concentration. Ryanodine receptors mediate the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, an essential step in muscle contraction. Hydantoin-5-propionic acid
Hydantoin-5-propionic acid is a metabolite of histidine, urinary hydantoin-5-propionic acid occur in patients with disorders of folate/ vitamin B12 metabolism (PMID: 3760095). Folic acid non-dependent excessive formiminoglutamic aciduria (Figlu-uria) is an extremely rare disorder; treatment with oral folate supplements (15 mg/day) for 3 weeks failed to reduce urinary hydantoin-5-propionic acid (PMID: 8487495). A metabolite of histidine, urinary hydantoin-5-propionic acid occur in patients with disorders of folate/ vitamin B12 metabolism (PMID: 3760095) 5-Hydantoinpropionic acid. CAS Common Chemistry. Aminofurantoin
Aminofurantoin is a metabolite of nitrofurantoin. Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic which is marketed under the following brand names; Urifast 100mg (The BID Nitrofurantoin, Brand of Cipla Uro1)Niftran, Furadantin, Furabid, Macrobid, Macrodantin, Nitrofur Mac, Nitro Macro, Nifty-SR, Martifur-MR, Martifur-100 (in India), Urantoin, and Uvamin (in Middle East). It is usually used in treating urinary tract infection. It is often used against E. coli. (Wikipedia)
5-Hydroxydantrolene
5-Hydroxydantrolene is a metabolite of dantrolene. Dantrolene sodium is a muscle relaxant that acts by abolishing excitation-contraction coupling in muscle cells, probably by action on the ryanodine receptor. It is the only specific and effective treatment for malignant hyperthermia, a rare, life-threatening disorder triggered by general anesthesia. (Wikipedia)
