Dihydroceramide
Dihydroceramide is an intermediate in sphingolipid metabolism. Dihydroceramide is the third to last step in the synthesis of beta-D-Galactosyl-1,4-beta-D glucosylceramide and is converted from sphinganine via the enzyme acyl-CoA-dependent ceramide synthase (EC 2.3.1.24). It is then converted to N-acylsphingosine via the enzyme fatty acid desaturase (EC 1.14.-.-). [HMDB] Dihydroceramide is an intermediate in sphingolipid metabolism.
