It is a white crystalline solid that is practically insoluble in water, soluble in diethyl ether, and slightly soluble in ethanol. 1-Tetradecanol may be prepared by the reduction of myristic acid or some fatty acid esters with reagents such as lithium aluminium hydride or sodium.
