Sulfated steroids are sterol lipids containing a sulfate group attached to the steroid skeleton. 4-Androsten-3beta,17beta-diol disulfate is considered to be a practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely strong acidic compound. Human plasma levels of 4-androsten-3beta,17beta-diol disulfate were reported to be influenced by genetic variants in the gene SULT2A1 which codes for the enzyme dehydroepiandrosterone sulfotransferase (PMID: 24816252).
