Lumiracoxib
C15H13ClFNO2 (293.06188000000003)
Lumiracoxib is a COX-2 selective inhibitor non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. On August 11, 2007, Australias Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA, the Australian equivalent of the FDA) cancelled the registration of lumiracoxib in Australia due to concerns that it may cause liver failure. New Zealand and Canada have also followed suit in recalling the drug. Aristololactam is a natural product found in Aristolochia tubiflora, Aristolochia argentina, and other organisms with data available. Aristololactam I (AL-I), is the main metabolite of aristolochic acid I (AA-I), participates in the processes that lead to renal damage. Aristololactam I (AL-I) directly injures renal proximal tubule cells, the cytotoxic potency of AL-I is higher than that of AA-I and that the cytotoxic effects of these molecules are mediated through the induction of apoptosis in a caspase-3-dependent pathway[1].
